Our Daily Schedule:

The school day will be 8:00am - 2:20pm.

  •      Orton Gillingham
  •       Literacy
  •       Math
  •       Science (Wednesday/Friday)
  •       Social Studies
  •       Gym (Tuesday/Thursday)
  •       Music (Monday)

 

Morning Arrival Procedures:

  •       Grades 1-2 will be lining up in the gym.  Students may enter from Nugent Avenue.
  •       Children can eat breakfast in the cafeteria starting at 7:40.
  •       Teachers will pick children up from the gym and classes will enter through assigned entrances to maintain social distance.

Morning Classroom Routines:

In the morning each child is responsible for:

  •      Unpacking his/her backpack
  •      Opening up all Homework assignments to be checked
  •      Submitting Blue Take Home/Notes Folder for teacher to review
  •     Begin morning work (calendar,weather, skip counting, Orton Gillingham routines)

    •       We use this program to teach phonics and spelling.
  •      Wit and Wisdom
    •      This program is comprehension and discussion based learning. The children will participate in discussions around the text we read, and work with partners/groups.
    •      Some of the skills we work on are sequencing story events, story elements, making inferences, questioning and identifying the main idea/details..

Gym and Music:

Music

  • The children will have Music with Mr. Savage once a week.

 

Gym

  • The children will go to gym twice a week with Mrs. Barone and Mr. Caputo.
    • Please be sure your child wears their gym uniform and sneakers on gym days.

 

Homework Procedures/Policies:

  •       Homework will be given Monday-Thursday.
    •      Sight Words
    •      Math
    •      Raz-Kids (2-4 responses per week)
    •      Google Classroom (once a week)
  •     Each Monday, your child will receive a sheet with the assignments for the week in his/her homework folder.  
  •      Please only have your child complete the homework for the assigned night.  DO NOT COMPLETE ALL THE ASSIGNMENTS AT ONCE.
 
  • Homework Sheets: Any sheets given in the folder, must be completed on the assigned day and glued into the homework notebook.
 
  • Math Succeed Workbook: KEEP AT HOME, IN A SAFE PLACE
  •     Have your child complete the assigned homework page. Rip out the page and glue into your child’s homework notebook to be checked the next day in school.  
  •     All students must complete the daily homework. 
  •     The Homework sheet will be posted on Class Dojo each week for your convenience.

Behavior Management Plan:

Green means your child had a wonderful day! Everyone begins each new day on green. 

Yellow is a warning. It means something went wrong.  However, your child can go back to green after correcting the issue. 

Red means your child was unable to correct the issues that took place in class that day. He/She will be spoken to regarding the behavior and contact with parent will follow.

 

Birthday Celebrations:

  •     Children may celebrate birthdays in our classroom.
  •     At this time parents are not permitted to attend.
  •      Please let us know a week in advance when you would like to send a treat for the children. Please understand, time must be scheduled for this celebration.
  •     GOODIE BAGS ARE NOT PERMITTED!! This is school policy. If sent in, unfortunately it will be sent home.
  •     Cupcakes or donuts all of the same type with juice boxes, plates and napkins will make your child’s celebration complete.

 

**Reminders:**

  •     Please check Class Dojo daily! This is our main source of daily communication.
  •     Please sign all notes immediately and return the next day.
  •     Please check and SIGN ALL Homework, every day.
  •     Kindly sign behavior calendar each night.
  •     Wear your uniforms everyday.
  •      Gym uniforms and sneakers need to be worn on gym days. (It is best to have your child wear sneakers everyday).
  •     Every Friday is a dress down day.

Dismissal Procedures:

  •      Children will be dismissed by 2:15 everyday.
  •      Our class is assigned exit 9 .
  •       Please be on time and avoid crowding the area near the exit door.
  •      Please note, NIA after school program children and bus children will be picked up from their classrooms.

Meals at School:

  •     Breakfast will be available in the morning before morning arrival, starting at 7:40am.
  •     The children will go to the lunchroom.
  •      The period will be split, so the children will eat for half the period and then go play outside for the rest of the time.

Medical:

  • Please keep the school nurse and myself informed of any allergies or medical conditions your child may have.
  • If your child is sick and stays home from school, please sent a Class Dojo message in the morning.
  • Absent notes must be handed in when your child returns to school.

 

School Supplies:

 

  • 6 Wide Ruled Marble Composition notebooks 
  • 1 large zippered pencil case
  • 4 Plastic folders with 2 bottom pockets (1 blue, 1 green

1 red, 1 black)

  • 2 boxes of sharpened #2 pencils
  • 1 set of headphones (no earbuds or Airpods)
  • 1 package of Washable Crayola markers (Classic Colors)
  • 1 pink eraser (rectangular)
  • 1 container of liquid hand soap (with pump)
  • 1 container of hand sanitizer (with pump)
  • 1 roll of paper towels
  • 1 container of disinfecting wipes (Lysol, Clorox etc.)
  • 1 box of baby wipes
  • 1 box of tissues (Kleenex, Marcal, Puffs etc)

  • 1 box of gallon size Ziploc baggies
  • 1 box of snack size Ziploc baggies
  • 1 package unlined 3x3 Post it Notes (any color)

  • 1 box of sandwich size Ziploc baggies
  • 1 package of construction paper (assorted colors) 
  • 1 package lined 3x3 Post it notes (yellow) 

Labeling:

  •      All supplies must be labeled with your child’s name and class.
  •     We encourage labeling of other belongings– sweaters/coats etc.
  •     If you send in money, please make sure it is in a sealed envelope and it is labeled with your child’s name, class and what it is for. Example: Gym Uniform Money

 

Remote Learning/Google Classroom:

  •      Our remote learning platform is Google Classroom.
  •      Your child’s username and password was given to you.
  •      Once your child is logged in to their device, their username and password should automatically be stored.
  •      Please be advised, a Google Classroom homework assignment will be given once a week  in order to keep the children familiar with the remote platform.
  •      In the event your child is sick with COVID ONLY, remote work will be provided for your child to complete at home.
  •      On Snow Days, we will learn remotely.
